Creative Ideas for Adding Holiday Cards to Scrapbook Pages

Holiday Cheer on Every Page

Can’t Toss Those Beautiful Holiday Cards? Same!

If you’re anything like me, every December ends with a cheerful avalanche of cards—from glittery greetings to photo cards showing how much everyone’s kids have grown. Toss them? Absolutely not! This post is stuffed (like a stocking!) with crafty tips, creative tricks, and scrapbook-friendly products that help you tuck every last bit of holiday love into your albums.

How Do We Scrapbook All These Cards?

That is the big question for me every holiday season (and birthday, too!) How do I add all of these beautiful cards to my scrapbook pages while ensuring that my photos are safe?

Cards, photos, letters, pockets, pull-outs… Holiday albums can turn into fun, interactive treasure chests—if you have the right tools and a few simple techniques. Here are my go-to crafty solutions:

Peekaboo Pockets: A Scrapbooker’s Holiday Hero

Creative Memories Peekaboo Pockets come in a whole sleigh-ful of sizes and are perfect for:

  • Postcard-style greeting cards
  • Photo cards with writing on the back
  • Adding additional photos to a layout
  • Journaling cards underneath

They let you enjoy both sides of a card and still add more goodies below. Truly the elves of the scrapbook world. You can see Peekaboo Pockets in action along with several other techniques in this video:

Brochure Pockets: For Cards, Notes & Holiday Bits

These transparent scrapbook pockets make it easy to tuck in:

  • Holiday cards
  • Letters
  • Playbills from seasonal shows
  • Maps, tickets, or programs
  • Uniquely sized photos

With full adhesive backing, they stick beautifully to pages or page protectors—and keep keepsakes protected from fingerprints, dust, and hot-cocoa mishaps.

The Envelope & Bow Creator

This clever tool lets you create photo-safe, perfectly coordinated envelopes from your scrapbook paper. It’s a wonderful way to store:

  • Letters from loved ones
  • Kids’ wish lists
  • Santa notes
  • Holiday recipes
  • Years-worth of mini greeting card collections

Psst… Creative Memories sold out quickly, but I still have a few in my personal shop!

Pro Tip: Make Sure Viewers Can Open & Read Cards!

Want to be able to open your holiday cards again and again? Here’s the trick. Put your page protector on the page before you add the cards. Then adhere the card directly on top of the protector. I use my trusty Creative Memories Tape Runner. Even with years of flipping and tugging, my cards stay put and stay interactive!

Layering is Key: Plan First, Stick Second

Before committing with adhesive:

  1. Lay every element on your page—cards, pockets, photos, embellishments.
  2. Visualize:
    • What attaches to the actual page
    • What sits on the page protector
    • What belongs in a Peekaboo Pocket
  3. Make sure nothing important gets covered up so that you won’t be able to see or read it.

A few extra minutes of planning = a polished layout full of delightful “open-me!” moments.

A Holiday Tradition Worth Keeping

Adding your holiday cards to your albums means you can revisit years of messages, smiling faces, and handwritten love notes any time. One of my favorite December rituals is curling up with a mug of hot cocoa, a hand-knit Afghan, and my holiday albums…and flipping through the years, watching families grow, remembering old moments, and feeling grateful for all the joy gathered between those pages.

This season truly is a scrapbooker’s dream. With adorable photo cards arriving daily, family gatherings, friends dropping by with cookies, holiday concerts, glittering lights, and festive outings, there is scrapbook fodder in every direction and on every day. Let’s capture all that joy—and scrapbook it beautifully!
