Why I scrapbook

I’ve created this blog to share my passion for scrapbooking and card making. I’ve been a scrapbooker for years. The importance of this art form really hit home in 2019, when we moved my folks into a nursing home. Shortly after the move, I made them a scrapbook with pictures of family and friends. Mom and dad would spend hours poring over the photos. In addition to bringing them joy, the photo album helped the nursing home staff to see my parents as more than Parkinson’s and dementia patients, but as full blown human beings. In fact, one of the nurses commented that he connected with my dad over fishing, a favorite past-time of both men, after dad shared some of his fishing photos.

Visiting my mom and dad at the nursing home

As my parents began to show signs of aging, I took time during visits home to review old family photos with mom and dad and to note down the names, places, and stories for many of their photos. Now that my parents have both passed away, I am so grateful we had this time together and that I was able to make sure that these memories were not lost for the next generation.
